UNESCO 1st World Youth Conference on Kindness

UNESCO selected 60 delegates around the world to undergo an online training before attending the 1st World Youth Conference on Kindness that took place from 20th – 24th August 2019 in New Delhi, India, in celebration of the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. The objective of the conference was to impart critical competencies such as empathy, compassion, mindfulness and critical inquiry, in global youth in order to inspire, empower and enable them to transform themselves and build long-lasting peace in their communities.

Among the 60 delegates, two young adults of the Sathya Sai International Organisation (SSIO) from Kenya and Poland respectively, participated.

The participants drafted and released the New Delhi Declaration of Kindness for Sustainable Development Goals on 23rd August 2019. They called on the Member States of the United Nations to join their journey to declare a United Nations Decade of Kindness. “Let’s be kind to our planet, to each other, to our animals, and everything around us, be ethical with our technology, mindful with our policies, liberal in our political competition and religious beliefs, inclusive of our people that we have marginalised on the basis of gender, sexual orientation, national identities, race, colour in an endless list, compassionate with mental health issues, nonviolent in our conflict resolutions, and transformational with our education systems.” (The complete declaration is available here : http://bit.ly/kindness-declaration)
